First Aid at Work (3 day course)

It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers should provide a safe and healthy environment for their
employees. If the assessment of First Aid needs highlights the need for qualified First Aider's, then this course will
provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel. This comprehensive three-day course covers a wide range of First
Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and
effective way. This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory
requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. (Effective from 1st October 2009).
Duration
A minimum of 18 hours spread over at least 3 days. Ideally, the course should be run over 3 consecutive days, but we have
the flexibility to accommodate your specific needs if you so desire.
Syllabus
A range of subjects is covered including:
Responsibilities and reporting, Resuscitation, Angina, Assessment of the situation, Heart attacks, Choking, Basic hygiene in First Aid, Bleeding control, Shock, Dealing with an unresponsive casualty, Minor injuries, Seizures, Legalities, responsibilities and reporting, Assessment of the situation, Dealing with an unresponsive casualty, Fractures and spinal injuries, Shock (including Anaphylaxis), Control of bleeding, Resuscitation, Bandaging, Heart attacks, Choking, Head injuries, Eye injuries, Poisoning, Chest injuries, Strains, Sprains, Burns, Asthma, Diabetes, Epilepsy.
If your organisation has a specific area of training that is not included, or you require a more in-depth session, then we can
accommodate you by providing additional training in that particular subject.
Certification
Subject to assessment, all participants will be issued with a First Aid at Work certificate (and wallet card) approved by the Health and Safety Executive. This qualification is valid for three years which can be renewed by attending a suitable Two Day re-qualification course. The HSE strongly recommends that all First Aider's attend an annual refresher programme of a minimum three hours duration.
Numbers
A maximum of 12 students are allowed and must be aged a minimum of 16 years or above. Bigger groups can be catered for, but the ratio must not exceed 12 students per instructor.
Assessment
All students will be assessed by independent assessors on their ability to act safely, promptly and effectively for a casualty who is unresponsive, requires CPR and who is wounded and bleeding.
Location
We are able to deliver this course on your site, reducing your costs in respect of additional time out and traveling. If you only have a small number that need training, then we can arrange a date in a choice of our venues in the East Central London area.
