Aim:
To train candidates to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise classes in a health club environment.
Objectives:
To develop candidate's knowledge of anatomy and physiology and how it relates to exercise and fitness.
To develop candidate's ability to plan and deliver safe and effective exercise to music sessions.
To provide candidates with the knowledge to develop good customer service and the personal qualities required by the exercise and fitness industry.
To provide candidates with an awareness of health and safety in an exercise and fitness environment.
To provide candidates with the opportunity to progress to further qualifications in the exercise and fitness industry – see below:
Progression:
This qualification provides progression to NVQ Level 2 Instructing Exercise and Fitness, for candidates who wish to develop and demonstrate occupational competence in group exercise to music instruction.
Alternatively, it provides progression to Level 3 qualification in Personal Training for candidates who wish to further their knowledge and skills and become personal trainers working with specialist populations as well as the general population. Candidates may also progress on to Level 2 Fitness Instructing in the gym environment.

A vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. It also provides access onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2.
ONLINE Studio Instructor course leading to the Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Exercise to Music)
Who is this course suitable for?
Adults (aged 16+) wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as studio-based fitness instructor. Individuals who have energy and enthusiasm, and would like a change in career, possibly leading towards becoming a Personal Trainer.
What are the entry requirements?
Individuals who already have experience with group exercise.
The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved, and candidates should have basic skills in communication pitched at Levels 2. All units are studied using E-Learning online involving the use of a PC and the Internet; therefore you should have a good understanding of Information, and Communication Technology.
What will you learn?
Learn to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective group exercise classes within a gym or health club environment. You will complete three units:
Unit 1 – Exercise and Fitness Knowledge Level 2 - This theory will underpin all your practical training and your future development as Instructors and Trainers. You will cover:

What could you do afterwards?
Progress to the REPS Level 2 Fitness Instructor course or REPS Level 3 Personal Trainer
Important note:
You must have access to a studio or suitable space to practice, and a small group of participants to practice with. If you're not within reasonable travelling distance to London, you will need to video record your practical session which you'll send in to be marked. Theory papers can be done at a test centre near you.
