Foundation Certificate course
Leading to the Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Basic Pool Plant Operation
This one-day level 2 course introduces front line staff to the basic principles and processes of
pool water treatment. It provides a pathway towards the full level 3 NPPO certificate course.
Course aim
The aim of this course is to provide staff
with the skills and knowledge to have
an appreciation of the basic pool water
treatment processes.
• Test the pool water
• Understand the factors that contribute to
pool water quality
• Explain to bathers what can affect pool
water quality
• The importance of good hygiene and
cleanliness in and around the swimming
pool
Content
The foundation course consists of eight
sections:
1. Pool water treatment – objectives
2. Pool water contamination
3. Pool hygiene and cleaning
4. Water supplies and treatment
5. Swimming pool plant
6. Water treatment
7. Water testing
8. Pool water log
Who should attend?
Pool staff who are required to be responsible
for water testing and day-to-day cleaning,
etc. Particularly useful for staff who are new
to the industry.
This course provides underpinning
knowledge for candidates undertaking NVQ
Level 2 training and a technical certificate
for relevant Modern Apprenticeships.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module the candidate
should be able to demonstrate a knowledge
and understanding of:
• The importance of maintaining the quality
of pool water and possible consequences
of not doing so
• The basic principles involved in
maintaining the quality of pool water
• How to carry out the necessary tests,
monitoring and sensory inspections
• How to take samples of pool water
